The honest version

Yoga is not the fastest way to lose weight, and the school will not pretend otherwise. What it is good at is the part that usually undoes the fast methods: building something you keep doing after the initial push runs out, and doing it without wrecking your knees.

The course runs six months for that reason. Shorter programmes produce a number and then hand it back. This one is long enough that the practice becomes ordinary.

How the practice is built

Longer held sequences and continuous movement carry most of the physical work, with pranayama running alongside. The school’s own framing of the outcome is that it should be holistic and steady rather than sudden, and it is the steadiness that protects the skin and the joints on the way down.

Strength and flexibility come with it. So, students consistently report, does sleep, which tends to be the thing that makes the rest of it hold.

What the school will and will not tell you

You will get guidance on routine, on the shape of a practising day, and on the relationship between the breath and the pace you work at. You will not get a guaranteed number of kilograms, because nobody can honestly give you one, and you will not get a prescription diet.

If you are managing a condition where weight is medically significant, tell the school and tell your doctor. The practice is built to sit alongside medical advice, not to stand in for it.
