What it is

Reiki is a Japanese complementary wellness practice traditionally associated with relaxation, mindfulness and energetic awareness. At the school it is offered as a gentle, deeply relaxing practice that sits beside the yoga, meditation and breathwork the school already teaches, rather than as anything separate from them.

What happens in a session

You stay comfortably clothed throughout. The practitioner works with gentle hand placements on or just above the body, and nothing is asked of you beyond lying or sitting still. What the session provides is a quiet space to slow down, turn inward and rest.

What you may experience

People experience Reiki differently, and the school makes no promises about what any one session will do. A session may support:

  • Deep relaxation
  • A sense of calm and stillness
  • Mindfulness and self‑awareness
  • Emotional relaxation
  • A feeling of rejuvenation
  • A quiet transition away from everyday stress
Reiki is offered here as a complementary wellbeing practice. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions, and it does not replace professional medical care. If you are under treatment for something, continue with it.

Reiki at the school

Sessions are private and one to one, held in person at Kovalam. They can be taken on their own, or arranged alongside meditation, breathwork or Yoga Nidra. Say which you would prefer when you write, or describe what you are after and the school will suggest the shape.

Who teaches it

Abhilash (Abhi) Soman has taught yoga, meditation, breathwork and relaxation at the school since 2014, and has practised since 2007. He completed Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 training in September 2026, and offers Reiki as an additional complementary practice within that broader work rather than as a separate discipline.
